Indian batsman Rahul Sharad Dravid on Saturday joins the elite club of batsmen for scoring 10,000 Test runs or more while playing on the fourth day of the first Test against South Africa at Chepauk stadium in Chennai. He became the sixth batsman in world to achieve that feat.

Dravid also became the fastest Indian to cross the mark of 10k while playing his 120th test match after former star batsman Sunil Gavaskar (124 match) and teammate Sachin Tendulkar who had achieved the milestone in 122 Test matches.

West Indian Brian Lara heads the list of test scorers with 11,953 runs from 131 tests, followed by Tendulkar on 11,782 runs in 147 tests.

However, the former West Indies batsman Brian Lara is the fastest to reach the target in just 111 Test. Other than Australian while Steve Waugh in 168 Tests and Allan Border in 156 Test matches.

Regarded as one of India’s finest cricketers with technically sound cricketing, Rahul Dravid has been one of India’s cricketing pillars. He is also the sixth and third Indian after the master blaster Sachin and Sourav Ganguly to score 10,000 runs in One Day International cricket.

Among the 10,000 Test run club he is also the third after Tendulkar and Lara who have scored more than 10,000 runs in ODIs.

Nickname ‘The Wall’ for his extraordinary front foot defence and consistent batting; he has been one of the best batsmen India could ever produce.

Currently in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) the Twenty20 version, he has been selected as the Skipper as well as the Icon Player in the Bangalore Royal Challengers team.

In another record to his credit he is also the only batsman in world cricket to have indulged in most century partnership in Test history with ‘72’ till March 28, 2008.
