Bhopal, Oct 16 (IANS) Six men allegedly involved in several robberies in various states including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh have been nabbed, police said here Thursday.
'All the six members of the gang nabbed from Shivpuri district, 300 km from here, are suspected to be involved in a number of robberies in the state including two in Bhopal during the last week of September,' Bhopal police superintendent Joydeep Prasad said.
'The police, due to their modus operandi, suspected the role of a gang of Pardhis (tribe) in the robberies committed in Bhopal and a joint team of the district police and the CID (criminal investigation department) were assigned the task to solve these case,' he said.
Later on a tip-off and the tracking of calls, the police reached their settlement in Shivpuri, laid a trap by posing as sellers of illegal weapons and nabbed them, Prasad added.
'The accused are being interrogated to ascertain their involvement in a number of robberies committed in the state and elsewhere in the past,' he said.
Though the cops have not been able to recover the robbed goods or cash, they claim to have seized a four-wheeler and the mobile phone used in the crime.
Those arrested have been identified as Suraj, 42, Om Prakash, 20, Surendra Kapoor, 23, Kamal Batham, 25, Bhupendra Lodhi, 22 and Arun Gurjar, 20. Police suspect the men are also involved in several robberies in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Karnataka besides Madhya Pradesh.
