The capital’s Shivaji stadium witnessed hockey at its best after India’s heartbreaking Olympic debacle as Delhi state team comprising both boys and girls mauled touring Euro College, Rotterdam, Holland 7-2 in a unique mixed (boys and girls) hockey match played here on Monday.
Delhi team led by Sonia Singh was leading by five goals at half time. Strikers Ashish Thakur and Naveen Sharma contributed a brace each while Y.S. Gulia, Anil Kumar and Mayank scored apiece for the team.
Michiel Blom and centre forward David Trimbos reduced the margin for the Dutch outfit. MassCoMedia, a new age media and communication Institute in league with the Indian Women’s Hockey Federation organised the match.
A batch of 72 members from the Euro College is on a 10-day tour to India. The mixed lineup on both the sides displayed amazing skills on the field. But the European power play did not pay dividend against the Asian style of hockey.
The matched played in a bid to revive the Indian hockey attracted a large crowd and witnessed lot of bonhomie on both the sides.
MassCoMedia played host to Euro College Club, Rotterdam. The students from the hospitality department at Euro College, Holland is here in India for a 10-day trip to experience and understand the culture and traditions of India.
