The Indian Olympic Association (IOA), country’s premier sports regulatory body, finally broke its silence after India’s Olympic qualifier aftermath lending its support for the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) as they stood firm against the persons who are blaming K.P.S. Gill alongwith his team for India’s historical Olympic debacle.
"We are hurt and feel ashamed since hockey is our national sport and we failed to qualify for Olympics. But it is not right to blame any individual for the debacle. It is a collective failure and we have to find out what went wrong," said Randhir Singh, IOA secretary while addressing a press conference here on Friday.
Instead, the IOA secretary held the government responsible for the dreadful state of sports in the country. But he also said that the IOA would have a meeting with the IHF in a week’s time to take stock of the situation.
Replying on the persistent queries as why KPS Gill is enjoying the post of IHF chief for so long despite producing any great results on the field, Singh clearly stated that the IOA would not take any action on the federation.
"IHF is a elected body and IOA has got no right of telling IHF who should resign and who should be elected. We will see where lies the problem but don't anticipate and jump into conclusions," Randhir said while responding to media questions.
