The Ajanta Group, better known with the brand name “Orpat” – another Gujarat based company – is ready to challenge Tata’s dream of manufacturing world’s cheapest car. The company has announced to roll out an electric car (e-car) with the brand name “Oreva”.
Ajanta with credit of being the world’s largest clock manufacturer is well aware of the vehicle industry with e-bikes, and hence can be the competitor to Tata’s Nano.
The company while announcing its future product has made it clear that it is not an impulsive decision following the popularity of Nano, but a well-thought-out plan considering the growing prospects of electric cars in India.
Speaking about the ambitious project and the prospect of its success, Mr. Rakesh Nathwani, National Marketing Head of Oreva Group said, “We don't have any competition with 'Nano'. This is our future product as we have seen electric bikes as our future products.
‘We see electric cars also as future products for India and we are working on it. The research and development is going on. This car will go on battery and it will be a completely Indian made battery operated car,’ Nathwani further added.
However, comparing the proposed ‘Nano’ with ‘Oreva’ there seems no direct confrontation as one runs with petrol and diesel, while other entirely on electric battery.
Ajanta, which currently manufactures its bikes in Morbi in Gujarat, will bring out its electric car from the same manufacturing unit.
Reva is at present the only electric car available in the Indian market.
