The television service on mobile has a broad market in India, if it is provided easily within the affordable prices, a Singapore based IT market research firm predicted in its survey.

Springboard Research, a multinational Information Technology Research firm has revealed, “India has the worth of $360 million market for mobile television service.” The firm has conducted the survey with its 1,215 volunteers in the six major cities in India.

To gain the in-depth psychology of Indian subscribers, this survey has been conducted in India. For conducting the survey, the firm used the methodology of ‘current mobile using pattern’, ‘mobile services expenditures’ and ‘users’ inclinations to adopt new content-based services’ as firm has mentioned it in its official website.

According Springboard survey, ‘The market is ripe for the launch of mobile TV services, and we believe that India will have around 12 million mobile TV subscribers within the first year of launching the service’ as stated Ravi Shekhar Pandey, Manager (Syndicated Research) of Springboard Research in the official website of the research firm.

The survey firm has revealed that as much as 84% of mobile users are waiting for this service if it would available easily and in affordable prices in which around 60% of mobile subscriber will prefer the similar content that is available on television like news, sports, music, movie, games and reality shows.

However, there is still a chance of touching the penetration level up to 5-6% of total in the first year of launching the service in the current running form and price.

At present, Doordarshan, the public broadcasting service of India is the only Mobile Television service provider that provides the limited television service, but there are many other major players that are waiting to kick off this service soon.

"India's mobile television market will be worth $360 million by the end of this year," says the report by Springboard Research, a Singapore-based IT market research firm.

The television on mobile is an added advantage for the mobile subscriber as the subscribers are already using the other advantages of mobile services like music, videos, calling, messaging and internet surfing. The mix-up of television services will enlarge the mobile facilities. After subscribing mobile television users can regularly watch TV content that is widely available via traditional cable or pay TV subscriptions at home.

The television service provider company can offer the on-demand service at pay-per-view option or can also suggests the monthly subscription service, as Springboard observed in its research.

For taking advantage of mobile television service, users will have to purchase new handsets of mobile. At present, Nokia, Samsung, Spice Telecom, and Qualcomm have been launched the new handsets that facilitates this service.
