An innovative developmental programme run under the aegis of Premier Skills project will provide forty young coaches from Eastern India a platform to enhance their knowledge in the field of coaching and to its related aspects.
The British Council in association with the Premier League, the official body of English professional league, launched the programme here on Monday.
The training of the trainee coaches’ will be carried out by the former Premier League stars Warren Barton and Robbie Earle, who are also qualified FA ‘A’ license holder coaches, at the SAI Eastern Centre from Tuesday and would end on March 15.
“The programme has been specifically designed after looking at the requirements of the Indian coaches. The trainees would be given lessons on coaching techniques and will also be given lectures on diet, sports medicines and English and cultural studies,” Barton told mediapersons.
Lot of stress will be given towards the English language skills of the coaches for their better communication with players.
Premier Skills is conducting this kind of pioneering programme with the help of All India Football Federation (AIFF), Indian Football Association (IFA-West Bengal) and Sport Authority of India’s (SAI) Netaji Subhash Eastern Zone Centre.
Premier League’s official broadcaster ESPN STAR Sports and sportswear giant Nike are also supporting the event. The 40 selected trainees from the group of 300 applicants were given kits worth Rs 8000.
"The trainee coaches will be given a log book after the five-day programme, which they have to fill up regularly. There will be a four-day revisit programme which could be in the month of October or November based on the performance of coaches, after we recommend to take the course to the next level," said Premier Skills chief coach Warren Barton, who played nearly 400 games for English Premier League sides Wimbledon, Newcastle United and Derby County.
