Cape Town, Jan 13(ANI): South African captain AB de Villiers has said he did not consider the January 11 ODI against Sri Lanka as a test of his captaincy because his team dominated the game from the beginning, and added that his real test would be in those games when his side is under pressure.
"We were on the attack right from the start, so my captaincy wasn't really tested. My hardest test is still coming and the real test will be when we're under pressure and I have to juggle the bowlers and think more quickly on my feet, Sport 24 quoted Villiers, as saying.
His comments came after South Africa thrashed Sri Lanka by 258 runs at Paarl on January 11 match, which was De Villiers' first match as captain.
"I've played this game long enough to know it's not always going to be this easy, but it was a great team performance and that is what got me really excited," Villiers added.
De Villiers said the match was turned in their favour not only due to good batting and the formidable target of 302 but also by their successful strategy.
"I asked the bowlers to run in with the new ball and strike early, which they did. They ran in with force and made it work. It was key for us to run in and hit the deck hard and there was intent and aggression in our bowling," Villiers said.
De Villiers said his side would consider each game as a fresh start, ahead of the second One Day International on January 14.
"What is good for us, though, is that we're playing at grounds we haven't been to in a long time and it teaches us to adapt quickly on wickets which are unfamiliar to us," he said.eanwhile, Sri Lankan captain Tillakaratne Dilshan said his team's lowest international total of 43 was the lowest point in his international career.
