Jaipur, Jan 9 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday allegedly stated that the states ruled by Opposition Parties do not enjoy the same privileges, as the ones governed by the ruling Congress Party.
"In reference to what Mr. Gehlot (Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot,) just said, I have not been as lucky as him in getting blessings. He proudly spoke of what all his state receives from New Delhi, in terms of blessings, what the Prime Minister or Government in Delhi gives him," Modi told mediapersons during the ongoing 10th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas here.
"My government does not have the same privilege. I don't get anything. We have to work very hard in order to earn things," he added.
To further prove his point, Modi referred to a letter, which he wrote to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, requesting a satellite for Gujarat's developmental projects, which received severe delay and got responded to only after a year.
"I wrote a letter to the Prime Minister a year ago, in which I requested him for a satellite for my state. You would be surprised my friends, that there a state in the country which requests the federal government for a satellite. Now the Indian Government found itself in a fix, as they know what to do when I ask for funds for roads etc. but they did not know how to deal with this kind of request; they had never faced such a plea before," said Modi.
"It almost took a year for them to decide what to do. In the end, the Indian Government decided to allot a satellite as they are uselessly hanging up there and if Modi is asking for it," he added.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had earlier thanked the Congress-led UPA Government for providing 'blessings' and all kinds of assistance to his state.
The 'Pravasi Bharatiya Divas', or the Overseas Indians Day is celebrated each year to mark the contributions of non-resident Indians to the country's growth. (ANI)
