Rajkot, Jan 7 (ANI): Kites depicting social activist Anna Hazare are in great demand in Gujarat ahead of the festival of Makar Sankranti.
There has been a surge in the sale of kites in Rajkot city as the people gear to fly kites on the festive occasion.
The anti-corruption campaign that had engulfed the nation last year continues to fascinate the people as a large number of them buy kites with Hazare's image on it.
The most popular kites this year have been the ones with Anna Hazare and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's image on it.
"Among the children, the Anna Hazare kites are very popular. There are kites with images of Anna Hazare, cricketers and film stars for children. Whatever Anna Hazare has done is right that is why the kites of Anna Hazare and Narendra Modi are favourites," said Chetan Bhai, a kite seller.
The customers said that they purchased the kites with Hazare's images as they wished to show their solidarity with him.
"Every year I used to take the kites of film stars. But this year Anna Hazare has been popular throughout the country. I want to be associated with the anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare and it is through this kite that I will be associated with his campaign against graft," said Anu, a customer.
The festival of Makar Sankranti is to be celebrated on January 14 and it is on this day that kites are flown by people in many parts of India. (ANI)
