The much-awaited comprehensive talks between the representatives of Seven Party Alliance, government of Nepal and the United Democratic Madhesi Front, UDMF could not be materialised on Wednesday until late night. Though the deadlock could not break, but the two-side agreed to hold another round of dialogue on late Thursday.
The talks could not bore fruits because the two sides caught themselves engage in internal preparations and homework for the crucial talks.
As per the reports the representatives of the government and the leaders of the Seven Party Alliance were continue in touch through phone and on the other hand Madhesi leaders were holding internal discussions over the recently drafted eight point proposal.
The UDMF leader and the head of Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP) Rajendra Mahato, informed that the Front leaders were engaged in internal preparations and homework for the critical dialogue.
While Mahantha Thakur, head of the Terai Madhes Loktantrik (TMLP) after concluding his talk with Home Minister Krishna Sitaula stated that government could not reach any decision on their demand for group-wise recruitment in National Army.
On the other hand a Madhesi leader, Renu Yadav while talking to reporters said, “Home Minister Krishna Sitaula though continued ringing our telephones requesting us to be present at the PM’s residence, yet we are holding serious discussion amongst ourselves. Also, there are things to be added in the draft proposal.”
The latest report suggests that the Eight-point Draft Proposal has already been admitted by the leaders of the ruling Seven Party Alliance. However, the Madhesi Front wanted to include some more points into the draft.
However, the sources points out the opposite picture of it as it says the leaders of The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) have put strong protest over the strange demand forwarded by the Madhesi Front for a separate Military Wing to be established exclusively for the Madhesi community.
No compromise on election and integration
As per the reports the leaders of NC, UML and the Maoists’ have been strictly maintaining that no compromise would be made on the extension of election date and on any demand aimed at disintegration of the county. Sources say that leaders have agreed to execute demands except postponing the election. The demand of ‘One Madhes, One Province’ has already been discarded by the leaders.
The three leaders comprising Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Maoist chairman Prachanda and UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal also discussed on several issues relating to finish Madhes entanglement. The meeting was held at PM’s official residence at Baluwatar on Wednesday morning.
Current status
The decisive talks between the government and the UDMF representatives last night ended inconclusively after the leaders failed to reach an understanding over the procedure of the implementation of the agreement and the establishment of a separate Madhesi battalion in the army.
The government and the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) is scheduled to resume dialogue later on Thursday.
