Karachi, Jan 2(ANI): Pakistan President and Pakistan People's Party(PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif are considering arranging a meeting to discuss a strategy to counter the growing popularity of the Pakistan Tehrik- e Insaf (PTI).
Though the President's spokesperson, Farhatullah Babar denied reports of a Zardari-Nawaz meeting and Sharif's spokerperson Senator Peraiz Rashid refused to comment on the issue, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani confirmed the development
"Efforts are on for a meeting between the top leaderships of both parties. I will succeed again," The Nation quoted Raisani, as saying.
Raisani had reportedly acted as a mediator between Zardari and Sharif to avert political tension on several occasions.
A close aide to Zardari also confirmed reports of back channel contacts between both leaders, and added that Raisani is acting as a bridge between both leaders.
"Raisani is the person equally trusted by the two leaders, and he might have been tasked to pave the way for such a meeting which is need of the hour," he said.
A PPP source told the Nation that President Zardari is willing to offer early elections as a quid pro quo to the PML-N if the latter does not resign from Assemblies till the Senate elections.
The added that the PML-N has also responded to PPP's efforts to strengthen co-operation between two parties. (ANI)
