Taliban to stop killings, kidnappings, suicide attacks in Pak to focus on US-led forces

Islamabad , Mon, 02 Jan 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Jan 2(ANI): The Afghan and Pakistani Taliban have vowed to stop targeting their own armed forces and instead focus on tackling US-led forces in Afghanistan, after orming a joint five-member Shura or council with Pakistani militant organisations.

A high-level delegation of the Afghan Taliban also vowed to end suicide attacks, kidnappings for ransom and killing of innocent people in Pakistan, particularly in the militancy-hit tribal areas.

Taliban sources told the News that the move comes after Pakistan Taliban leader Mulla Omar disapproved of his organization's atrocities on the local population.

The sources added that Omar was worried by several Pakistan Taliban members diverting their attention to Pakistan, thus making it difficult for Afghan Taliban to continue fighting the NATO forces.

According to sources, Omar wanted his group to concentrate on Afghanistan, where their fight against the foreign forces was in a decisive phase.

"Convey my message to the Pakistani Taliban that you have forgotten the real purpose, which is to fight the invading forces in Afghanistan and liberate it from their occupation," a Taliban leader quoting Mulla Omar, as saying.

All Taliban factions have provided one member each to the five-member Shura that is also entrusted with resolving differences between the militant groups.

It was a surprise that the TTP leader Hakimullah Mahsud and his deputy Maulana Waliur Rahman were shown in the leaflet sending different people to the Shura to represent them.(ANI)
