New Delhi, Dec 31 (ANI): The Janata Dal United (JD-U) on Saturday hit out at the Delhi Government over the hike in the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in New Delhi and the areas falling under National Capital Region, and demanded an immediate rollback.
In a statement issued here, party general secretary and spokesperson Prabhat Ranjan said: "The government does not want to miss the chance of price rise by any means. The increase reflects the government's gross immorality and non-responsibility. The government elected by the people takes all the decisions keeping the 'aam admi' into consideration. But the Sheila Dikshit Government sets aside the benefits of the common man and takes major decisions in favour of the companies. Be it any electrical company or the Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL)."
Meanwhile, expressing distress over the CNG price hike, Dinkar Kotnal, a local, said that the continuous increase in the gas and petrol price has made it impossible for him to afford a car.
"Expenses are increasing tremendously. Inflation is increasing day by day. Salary is limited but there is a continuous rise in prices. Our budget is completely shaken. Gas rates have been increased once again from the past night," said Kotnal.
"We fail to understand that can we afford a car or not. We should buy a rickshaw or a cart because now it is very difficult for us to maintain a car," he added.
Om Prakash, another local, also echoed similar sentiments, and said that the rising inflation has made it very difficult to survive in the metropolitan cities.
"Prices of the various items are frequently increasing but salary remains the same. Price rise has a huge impact on our daily lives as expenses like children's fees, rent and services are affected. Hike in gas price will affect us badly as our budget has totally shaken," said Prakash.
Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) has raised prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) by 1.75 per kg beginning Saturday because of a weakening rupee and a halt in cheaper domestic supplies.
Vehicle owners will now have to pay Rs. 1.75 per kg more in Delhi and Rs. 2 extra in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
CNG will now cost 33.75 per kg in Delhi and 37.90 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. (ANI)
