Karachi, Dec 30(ANI): Pakistan interim coach Mohsin Khan has said his team is hoping for a 'fresh start' when they take on England for the first time since the spot-fixing scandal.
"We know the two teams will play for the first time since the spot-fixing scandal last year in England. We have seen the negative comments in the British media. But we just want to focus on playing a positive and good series," The Daily Times quoted Mohsin, as saying.
Pakistan cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif were jailed in London after being convicted of spot-fixing in a Test match against England at Lord's in 2010.
Mohsin was appointed Pakistan's interim coach for Test and one-day series against England in the United Arab Emirates after Waqar Younus stepped down due to personal reasons in September.
Mohsin, who led Pakistan to series wins over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, expressed confidence that the relations between the players would remain cordial.
He also defended the inclusion of left arm paceman Wahab Riaz in the squad, and pointed out that all selected players had been granted clearance by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Wahab's name had featured in the court proceedings during the spot-fixing trial in London but he has not been charged with any offence.
"We wanted Wahab because he exploits the old ball well and gets reverse swing. These will be important for us on the pitches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi," Mohsin said.
Pakistan will play three Tests, four one-day internationals and three Twenty20 matches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from January 17.(ANI)
