Mumbai, Dec 27 (ANI): Asserting that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should be free from the clutches of Central Government, former senior police officer and civil society activist Kiran Bedi on Tuesday said that it is now the supremacy of the national interest over the vested interest.
"It is now the supremacy of the national interest over the vested interests. Today you are seeing, when there is national interest, the administrative control of CBI goes to the government and where there is vested interest, they keep CBI in their clutches. So, today is the issue of national interest over vested interest and the vested interest is the control over CBI and national interest is decontrol of CBI," Bedi told the media here.
"CBI should work under people who have retired from judiciary, efficient officers and people. It should not be under us, it should be under efficient people elected by the nation. Today we shall see whether national interest wins or selfishness wins. If national interest wins, then amendments will be passed and if selfishness emerges victorious, then we will stay at the same place, where we are," she added
Bedi further said that there should be no political influence on organisations like CBI.
"Anna is demanding s strict law in this country, a law which is away from political manipulations. After all administrative control needs to be done by someone else, so who will do the administrative control of CBI? Administrative control shall be done by the Lokpal. You have seen the debates in the Parliament and all the politicians have said so, even Rahul Gandhi said two years back that CBI is misused and every party, which came in power, manipulated it," she said.
"We are demanding a strict Lokpal to end these manipulations, but the government's draft does not have this point. As per the government's draft, the administrative control of CBI is still in the hands of the government. Anna's demand is that the administrative control of CBI should be with Lokpal," she added.
Another close aide of Anna Hazare, Manish Sisodia said that the health of Anna is better than yesterday, though he has not got a medical check up done.
"He (Hazare) said he would be getting it done at the ground. He had fever in the last few days, still his throat is bad and he is suffering with cough, so we also wanted and even supporters said that he should not sit on fast but he is not agreeing ," he added
Meanwhile, Hazare began his three-day fast against the weak Lokpal Bill tabled by the government in Parliament.
Hazare, who reached here last night from his village Ralegan Siddhi, paid respects at Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Juhu before proceeding to the fast venue, MMRDA ground, in suburban Bandra in a rally.
After his three-day fast, Hazare will launch a civil disobedience "jail bharo" campaign. Online, more than one lakh 37 thousand Indians have offered to participate in the agitation. (ANI)
