Kanpur, Dec 26 (ANI): Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) General Secretary Prakash Karat has slammed the Congress party for playing caste-based politics in order to win polls.
Talking to reporters here, Karat mocked by saying that the Congress would taste defeat despite its desperate efforts to clinch the upcoming state polls.
"Do only regional parties play caste-based politics? The Congress party has always used such politics for its benefit," he added
Asked will Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi'songoing campaign make any difference?, Karat said: "You will get to see that during the polls in Uttar Pradesh, their fate would be the same as they faced during Bihar polls."
The stakes are high in Uttar Pradesh, which will elect a 403-member legislative assembly, since the result in the state is expected to broadly indicate the trends for the national elections due in 2014.
Meanwhile, Karat also said that the credibility of the Congress-led overnment is at stake over the anti-corruption Lokpal Bill.
"No matter what the Congress party has to say over the movement against corruption the general opinion of the common man in the entire country is that the federal government is not keen on tackling graft seriously. People will have their doubts until a strong and efficient Lokpal (Ombudsman) Bill is not presented and passed in the Parliament," he added. (ANI)
