The world golfing stars with some of India's elite players collectively marked the formal opening of the Johnnie Walker Classic 2008 with one of its kind Pro-Celebrity tournament in the lush greens of the DLF golf course here on Tuesday.
Defending Johnnie Walker Classic champion and South African professional Anton Haig’s team won the Pro-Celebrity tournament with a score of 24.3. Haig’s team consisted three amateurs, cricketer turned golfers Kapil Dev and Atul Wassan and Ms. Shaili Chopra.
Some of the top golfers from across the world with the likes of Miguel Angel Jimenez, Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance, Ian Poulter and Anton Haig teamed up for the pro-celebrity event with eminent personalities such as Gautam Thapar (President, PGTI), Kapil Dev, Ajay Jadeja, Pawan Munjal and India’s leading lady professional Irina Brar.
Kavita Singh won nearest to the pin contest as her shot landed 2.1 metres short of the pin on the 16th green while former Indian cricket captain, Kapil Dev claimed the longest drive (283 metres) prize on the 12th hole.
