Sir Alex Ferguson defends decision to ban Suarez

London, Sat, 24 Dec 2011 ANI

London, December 24(ANI): Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has defended the Football Association's decision to ban Liverpool striker Luis Suarez for making racially abusing Patrice Evra.

Liverpool striker Suarez was handed over a ban of eight matches as well as a fine of 40,000 pound. Our support of Patrice was obvious, right from the word go and its still the same", says Ferguson

Ferguson also tried to calm down the situation by saying that it isn't like a war between the two clubs, but was a case of an individual being racially abused.

He also admitted the fact that ample level of strain was already present between Manchester United and Liverpool, which are the two most successful clubs of English Football.

He said, "It doesn't take a lot to remind everyone this is the biggest derby game in the country, up until the present anyway", The Sun reports.

Ferguson also pointed out towards an incident which transpired in the year 2008 in which United's left back Patrice Evra was banned for four games due to an argument with a ground staff at Chelsea in 2008.

"Patrice got that suspension for the incident at Chelsea when no one was there, just a grounds man and our fitness coach", says Ferguson. (ANI)
