Kaushambi (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 23 (ANI): With the Bombay High Court disapproving the agitation of the members of India Against Corruption, Kumar Vishwas, a close aide of veteran social activist Anna Hazare, today claimed that they have been granted permission for the demonstration at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
"There is no norm of taking permission to organise any demonstration or agitation at Jantar Mantar. An application needs to be received and 'India Against Corruption' has already received that application without facing any objection from the government or any other organisation. We have its permission. As for Ramlila Maidan, we are getting unconfirmed information that permission for four days has been granted," Vishwas, told the media here.
"In Maharashtra, the High Court has refused to intervene and stated that the ball is in the government's court. We hope that as the government serves the country and the people of Maharashtra, they will consider the larger good for the people and grant us permission," he added.
Question the decision of members of 'India Against Corruption' to seek exemption from charges to use MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) grounds for Hazare's proposed fast, the Bombay High Court earlier in the day disapproved the stir, saying it cannot permit "parallel canvassing" when Parliament is seized with debate on Lokpal Bill.
Hazare, who has rejected the Lokpal Bill drafted by the government, issuing a stern warning today said he would fast in prison for a strong Lokpal Bill if denied permission to fast in Mumbai.
Kumar Vishwas also hit out at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, who supported reservation in the Lokpal Bill, and said that this issue had only been raised to divert the attention of the country from the issue of drawbacks in the bill.
"The matter of Lokpal and its selection and removal has become completely non-relevant and issues in the interest of the common man have been diluted in a planned manner to divert our attention. And issues like reservation has been included with some people wearing caps brought in the Parliament yesterday and all efforts are being made to divert the attention from the crunch issue," said Vishwas.
"But the country will begin its fight from December 27, because now the fight is between the government and the Parliament. The Parliament's authority, honourable Prime Minister's letter, sense of House and the promise made to the nation has been conned by some people. They will have to answer to the people when the agitation begins on December 27," he added.
Lalu Prasad Yadav, who raised the issue of inclusion of minorities under the preview of reservation for the Lokpal Bill, had earlier on Thursday urged the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government not to do anything wrong in fear of agitation.
"Want to thank government for bringing back minority quota. But don't rush us. It is our job to pass or not pass this. Tomorrow, someone else orders us and treats us like slaves, warns that he will get protests organized outside homes of Sonia, Rahul Gandhi and other leaders. This is not correct. Country should be run by authority and right, not by agitation," Yadav told the Lok Sabha.
Asserting that agitations do not run the country, Yadav slammed Team Anna, saying five people cannot issue dictates to the House.
The government introduced the new version of the Lokpal bill in Lok Sabha on Thursday after a lengthy debate during which almost all parties opposed the introduction of the bill in its current form.
The Union Cabinet had earlier on Tuesday approved the Bill for creation of the Lokpal with Constitutional status.
The fresh Bill allows the Lokpal to oversee investigation of cases referred by it by the CBI. But, the Bill clearly mentions that CBI will continue to be under the government's administrative control. (ANI)
