Raipur, Oct 7 (IANS) A Maoist commander was gunned down early Tuesday by a joint team of the Chhattisgarh police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in a forest in the state's restive southern region.
The Maoist was killed after a gun battle between the security forces and the rebels in Bijapur district of the Bastar region, some 500 km south of capital Raipur.
'The combing team challenged a group of armed Maoists and a tribal commander was killed after a brief gun battle while about a dozen of his aides managed to escape into the nearby forests,' District Superintendent of Police Ankit Garg told IANS.
Police seized the body of the Maoist along with four 12-bore guns and a tiffin bomb.
