Basti, Dec 10 (ANI): Workers of a sugar mill in Basti allegedly roughed up sugarcane farmers, who had queued up to get their produce weighed prior to selling it to the mill on Saturday.
The brawl took place when farmers were getting their consignment weighed. Suddenly three workers of the sugarcane mill attacked them with wooden batons and clubs.
Vishnu Prakash Chaudhary, an injured farmer, said he had gone to get his sugarcane consignment weighed, but was beaten up by a mill worker while returning from there.
"They dragged me till that side (pointing out) and after that when I came here, they started beating me. I don't know the name of those people, but they were workers from the sugar mill," said Chaudhary.
Kishore, another farmer said three men with wooden sticks had thrashed him.
"They physically assaulted me, three people beat me up; one of them was a Home Guard. I had come to get my produce weighed and had been waiting here for the past three days. When I was preparing to place my consignment they came and beat me up," recalled Kishore.
Some say the farmers were the first to instigate the fight, accusing the sugar mill authorities of not rectifying the faulty weighing machine that resulted in their being detained outside the mill for days together.
They also said the concerned sugarcane mill officials had no satisfactory answer to give the farmers. (ANI)
