Kochi, Dec 1 (ANI): College girls of St. Theresa's College took out a protest march against Tamil Nadu's stand on the controversial Mullaperiyar Dam.
About 2,000 college girls and their teachers taking out a march in protest to pressurize both Tamil Nadu and Kerala government to take prompt action regarding the issue.
Usha Raju, a student, said the issue is not a child's play, but a question of putting three million lives at stake. Therefore, both states need to find a solution sooner than later.
The controversy regarding the dam goes back to over a century when the British built the dam in 1885 and gave the lease of 999 years to Tamil Nadu.
Kerala wants the structure to be demolished and rebuilt or its height lowered, while Tamil Nadu is fiercely opposed to the move.
Many organisations and NGOs have started agitations, rallies, campaigns and hunger strikes in protest.
Kerala is in protest mode, the epicentre being Upputhara Chappath near the dam site, where activists are on hunger strike for the past four days.any leaders have visited to the dam site to assess the situation.
The Kerala High Court yesterday urged the state government to seriously consider precautions to ensure the safety of the people near the dam. By Juhan Samuel (ANI)
