New Delhi, Nov. 29 (ANI): Union Corporate Affairs Minister Dr. M. Veerappa Moily has expressed shock and deep sorrow on the demise of Jnanpith award winner Assamese litterateur Prof. Indira Goswami.
Dr. Moily in his condolence message said Goswami was one of the most celebrated writers of contemporary Indian literature.
"In her demise, the literary world has lost a great visionary. Her demise is a loss not only to the world of literature but a personal loss to me," he added.
Popularly known as 'Mamoni Roysom Goswami', she was battling for life at the intensive care unit of the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for the last nine months.
She is famous for her novels which include 'The Moth Eaten Howdah of a Tusker', 'Pages Stained with Blood', 'The Man from Chinnamasta' and research on Ramayani studies-Ramayana from Ganga to Brahmaputra.
Goswami, 70, is also well known for her attempts to structure social change, both through her writings and through her role as a mediator between the banned ultra outfit- United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the Central Government. (ANI)
