Beijing, Nov 29 (ANI): A UNESCO peace chair and University of Manipal geopolitics professor has called for closer ties between India and China and blamed the West for portraying both sides as rivals.
M.D. Nalapat said both sides have remarkably similar views on significant issues such as World Trade Organization negotiations and climate change.
Highlighting the importance of close ties, he said both are developing countries having common interests, and both are affected by soaring commodity prices fuelled by speculation in developed nations, Xinhua reports.
He further said that the 2008 financial crisis highlighted the greed and malpractice but China gave a call to "Protect 8", which implies to ensure at least eight percent economic growth.
He said the Indian industries, especially housing and telecom could help China maintain eight percent economic growth in the wake of Europe's debt crisis, and India can benefit in sectors of power, railways and roads.
He described London and New York as homes of "vulture funds, which utilize advanced countries' legal system to force poorer nation to pay "repayment of loans", most of which were usually spent on the salaries of expatriates from the very countries giving the loans".
He further said that bilateral trade could reach 150 billion dollars in three years due to Sino-Indian alliance.
He said co-operation in areas of education and tourism would be beneficial to both sides. (ANI)
