Agartala, Nov 29 (ANI): In a bid to bring back the youngsters to their cultural roots, the state of Tripura recently hosted the Manipuri Raas festival in Agartala for a large number of Manipuri people residing in the state.
Young Manipuri girls dressed in traditional attire swayed to the folk tunes of Maha Raas.
The young performers danced around idols of Lord Krishna as her admirers and sang devotional songs.
Along with thousands of Manipuri people living in Tripura, several non-Manipuri people also participated in the program.
"People from all community and religion participated in this festival. There is no difference among us. Till today Maha Rass is being celebrated with full devotion as it was celebrated during the time of Maharaj Bhagya Chandra who started it," said Abhijit Bhattacharjee, one of the organizers.
The event served as a great platform for the people in Tripura to know more about the culture and traditions of Manipur.
"Along with education it's very necessary that the new generation should know about our heritage. It also plays a vital role in character building. As I have to stay outside in connection with my job so I have come here with my children to show them our culture," said Rana Sinha, a devotee.
The age-old Raas festival is celebrated every year on the full moon night of "Kartik Purnima".
"Raas" is a classical form of dance associated with the cultural tradition of the Manipuri community.
The festival has been celebrated for over two hundred years now helping create a bond between the people of two states and bring them closer. (ANI)
