Washington, Nov 29 (ANI): Actor Tobey Maguire has reportedly agreed to settle a lawsuit filed over more than 311,000 dollars he was paid by a convicted Ponzi scheme operator in Texas.
According to TMZ, the 'Spider-Man' star will pay 80,000 dollars to settle the suit, Fox News reported.
The suit claims that Maguire took in more than 300,000 dollars in winnings, which had allegedly been embezzled by hedge fund manager Bradley Ruderman, who is currently in jail.
The games were allegedly led by Ruderman, CEO of Ruderman Capital Partners, and funded with 25 million dollars in defrauded investors' money.
They were unlicensed and therefore illegal under California law.
Twenty-one other people, including high profile actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and director Nick Cassavetes, were named in the June lawsuit, which was filed by trustees for Ruderman's victims after he filed for bankruptcy.
According to Radar Online tens of millions of dollars changed hands in the illegal games.(ANI)
