Girija Vyas urges political parties to allow Parliament to function

New Delhi, Nov 24 (ANI): Congress leader Girija Vyas has urged all political parties to allow functioning of the Parliament during the ongoing Winter Session.

Talking to reporters here, Vyas said: "It was the collective responsibility of all political parties including the opposition to let the Parliament conduct business."

"Not allowing the Parliament to function is an insult of the democracy and institutional pride of the country's highest institution. You have rightly said that considering the current economic trend the country is facing the stalling of business, and it is unfortunate. Important bills which even the opposition agree to carry out a debate on but later creates disruption in working of the Parliament, how will those law get passed?" Vyas asked.

She farther said that the pride of one of the country's highest institutions should be maintained.

"When they say that everyone wants to discuss the issue of high inflationary prices, then why don't they utilise the floor and not shy away from debate. So in such a situation it is everyone's responsibility other than the government to allow the house to carry out business. We agree that the institutional pride of the parliament needs to be maintained," she added.

After the Parliament's first day of the Winter Session was adjourned, Yashwant Sinha had on Tuesday said that the UPA Government will pay for inflation if it does not take steps to tackle it soon.

No business has been conducted in for the past two days, as the opposition has refused to back down on several issues, including inflation and the 2G spectrum scam.

Food inflation has been stubbornly high over the last few years in India, in spite of record foodgrain production and robust buffer stocks.he Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has already raised rates 13 times since early March 2010 to clamp down on stubborn inflation, largely driven by high food prices.

Inflation has remained over nine percent since December 2010. The headline inflation measured on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) was 9.7 percent in October, while the rate of price in food segment for the week ended November 05 was 10.6 percent. (ANI)
