New Delhi, Nov. 23 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader S S Ahluwalia on Wednesday lashed out at the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre for not being able to conduct proceedings in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament in a peaceful manner.
Ahluwalia said that the government was wrong to blame the opposition for disrupting proceedings.
"The government is saying in the media that the opposition does not intend to let Parliament function. I want to make it clear through you that making Parliament function is primarily the responsibility of the government," he said.
Stating that the BJP would participate with the Left in its proposed debate on inflation, Ahluwalia further said the opposition would seek a debate on the issue of illicit funds, in keeping with the theme of the recent countrywide tour denouncing black money, by party veteran Lal Krishna Advani.
"We will participate in discussions on the issue of inflation, which the Left parties have brought to the fore, as and when it comes up, according to the process favoured by them, after which the issue of black money will be raised. We have asked for debate on the issue under an adjournment motion," he said.
Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till Thursday, as the opposition refused to back down on a number of issues including inflation and the 2G spectrum scam.
Food inflation has been stubbornly high over the last few years in India, in spite of record foodgrain production and robust buffer stocks.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has already raised rates 13 times since early March 2010 to clamp down on stubborn inflation, largely driven by high food prices.
Inflation has remained over nine percent since December 2010. The headline inflation measured on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) was 9.7 percent in October, while the rate of price in food segment for the week ended November 05 was 10.6 percent. (ANI)
