Tehran, Nov 22(ANI): Over a dozen Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) informants working in Iran and Lebanon were reportedly outed due to using trackable mobile phones and the code-word "pizza" to meet at a Pizza Hut.
The busting of two spy rings - one in the Beirut-based militant group that has killed hundreds of Americans, and the other overseeing the Iranian nuclear programme, might render it difficult for the CIA to recruit local informants in future.
A CIA spokesperson refused to comment on the issue, The Telegraph reports.
"If they were genuine spies, spying against Hezbollah, I don't think we'll ever see them again. These guys are very, very vicious and unforgiving," ABC News quoted former Beirut's CIA station chief Robert Baer, as saying.
Hizbollah counter-intelligence reportedly detected several mobile phones in Beirut that "were used rarely or always from specific locations and only for a short period of time".
According to the ABC News, two Hizbollah double-agents have discovered the pizza restaurant where CIA informants were being met.
Hizbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah had earlier alleged that two members were caught spying for the CIA, the US embassy had denied those claims. (ANI)
