New Delhi, Nov. 16 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday expressed relief after the Delhi High Court granted bail to Lal Krishna Advani's former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni and two former party lawmakers in the 2008 cash-for-vote case.
"What we believe that Kulaste, Sudheendra Kulkarni and Ashok Argal along with other have got a relief. It is a relief of some sort, it is one of the most unacceptable actions which have been done by the government and it is unfortunate that the whistleblowers had to meet this fate," said BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
"But the point Bharatiya Janata Party would like to reiterate again is that the culpability of the beneficiary has yet not been established," he added.
Questioning as to why the main beneficiary of the scam, the ruling Congress Party government was kept out the probe, Rudy further said: "The main beneficiary of the cash for votes affair, the party whose government and the prime minister whose chair was to be salvaged are kept out of the probe. And we would like to have a clarification on this."
The Delhi High Court earlier in the day granted bail to two former BJP lawmakers and Advani's former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni along with two other accused in the 2008 cash-for-vote case.
The cash-for-votes scam had rocked proceedings in the Lok Sabha in 2008, when the ruling UPA Government, led by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, allegedly bribed lawmakers of other parties to help winning the confidence vote. (ANI)
