Fusion of Ecuadorian dance, Punjabi Panorama at Khalsa College of Education

Amritsar, Nov.13 (ANI): A fusion of Ecuadorian dance and Punjab panorama was witnessed at the Khalsa College of Education here on Saturday.

 

Artists from Ecuador and Punjab took part in the Khalsa College International Folk Festival-2011.

 

The Bhangra, the Gidda and the Ecuadorian folk dance of Tierra Negra was performed on a single stage.

 

A nine-member folk dance troupe from Ecuador displayed their skill to loud clapping and applauds from the audience.

 

The folk festival was organized by the college in collaboration with the Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC).

 

The aim of the festival was to spread awareness and understanding about international cultural exchange programs meant to generate universal brotherhood and peace through medium of art, said Khalsa College Governing Council Honorary Secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, who was chief guest at theunction.

 

The Ecuadorian artists, wearing the colourful and bright clothes, won the hearts of the audience with their foot-tapping dances and melodious singing in Spanish, the primary language of the Ecuador.

 

They later intermingled with artists of the Khalsa College of Education.

 

College Principal Dr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon said that such cultural programs would go a long way in promoting an understanding of various cultures and international cooperation.

 

He said that this was the 21st cultural program organised by the Khalsa College of Education.

 

"In this way, we are understanding their (Ecuador) culture, and, they are appreciating our way of life. These programs are not merely meant for recreation, but for helping to generate a sense of universal brotherhood," he said.

 

The Ecuadorian delegation was led by International Folk Ensemble Director Carlos Jonathan Minota.

 

He said the Ecuadorians were happy to perform before a live audience and were enthralled by Punjabi music and dance.

 

PCPC director Dr Davinder Singh Chhina said the their aim is to bring artists of the world together for the international harmony and peace.

 

He said the delegation was here for ten days and they were happy that their 100th function was performed at Khalsa College, which is doing a yeoman's service in the field of education and culture in society. y Ravinder Singh Robin(ANI)
