Amritsar, Nov.13 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said that state assembly elections, which would be due by the end of February 2012, would be held on time as the Election Commission of India has made all preparations.
Badal who was here to inaugurate the Golden Temple Entrance Palza, a beautification project for the 'holy shrine' of the Sikhs, said there were no reason for delaying the elections.
He, however, blamed the Congress-led central government for not holding the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections on time, and for not calling the house after the polls.
"There were attempts to delay the polls first. When we approached the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and he agreed for the polls, there was every attempt to scuttle the election process, " he said.
Badal said it was the duty of the Centre to call the session of the SGPC house, the Chief Minister and Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Captain Amarinder Singh on the misuse and misappropriation of funds by the SGPC, especially those funds meant for the Harmandar Sahib.
"Political leaders should not make hearsay statements. All should act responsibly and should not resort to such false propaganda. I do not indulge in malicious campaign and want others to restrain (themselves) also," he said.
He described the Harmandar Sahib as a shrine that welcomes all religions, castes and creeds.
He said that he was happy to inaugurate the project that would facilitate all visitors to the shrine.
He said Punjab is the most peaceful state today in the country, promoting religious harmony, peace and brotherhood, which he hoped would remain for long. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)
