Local favourites Garhwal Heroes FC and Indian National FC had an easy outing as they posted matching solitary goal victory over their higher placed rivals Border Security Force, Jalandhar and State Bank of Travancore, Thiruvananthapuram in their respective league matches of the 4th Lt Governor's Invitational DDA Football tournament played at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday.
With this win, both the teams kept their hopes alive of making it into the knock-out stage as there are still two more rounds to go in the ongoing tournament. In the first match of the day Garhwal Heroes prevailed over BSF team by a lone goal in a one-sided affair.
Garhwal Heroes dominated the game right from the start and had more ball possession throughout the match. Their opponents never proved any threat to the local team
Garhwal Heroes players were more accurate in their passing and trapping while the BSF players couldn’t even be to able to control the ball and much to their dismay they somehow lost the possession at the crucial juncture.
Garhwal Heroes team scored the all-important winning goal of the match three minutes before the breather. A cross from the right flank by skipper Gangamlung Kamei found Henry Jerome inside the box, whose shot came back from the bar but agile Jerome finished it into the goal in his second attempt.
In the second encounter of the day, Indian National FC’s Ifeanyi struck the match-winner late in the second half to put off the challenge of State Bank of Travancore.
