Rajkot, Nov 4 (ANI): Cotton growers of the Rajkot in Saurashtra region of Gujarat are elated at the prospects of earning higher profits from the bumper output this season.
The growers are excited as they expect better returns from the good quality crop of cotton.
"The quality of cotton is better this year as compared to last year. Last year there occurred problems (in the production of cotton) due to rainfall, so the quality was not upto the standard, but this year, the quality is very good," said Bhikha Bhai Ranpariya, a cotton trader.
Gondal city is located at a distance of 40 kilometres and houses one of Asia's biggest market yards.
"This is just the beginning. The cotton fibres of the season and of the new harvested crops are coming. The rates have started from Rupees 900 and it would go up to Rupees 1000 and it would increase further. The production of the cotton in the Gondal of the Saurashtra region is fine and we are getting good rates for it," said Prembhai, a worker.
Timely and sufficient rainfall has led to surplus production of cotton in this region.
Till a few years back, the farmers received almost Rs. 400- 600 for the cotton bundles. However, the rise in the demand for cotton has led to an increase in its price to almost Rs.1000.
According to official sources, Gujarat accounts for around one-third of the cotton production in the country.
