Ghaziabad, Oct 29 (ANI): Amid a clamour for its revamp over allegations of financial mis-conduct by some key members, Team Anna on Saturday decided not to dissolve the core committee.
"No question of dissolving the core committee of Anna Hazare movement", said civil society activist Arvind Kejriwal during a press meet after the crucial meeting in Ghaziabad.
He, however, said that there was always scope for restructuring of the core committee.
Emphasising that the government is targeting it, Kejriwal said: "Core committee supports Team Anna's Hisar campaign but this does not mean we are against a party.
"The core committee appeals to the government to pass the Lokpal Bill in the winter session of Parliament. Otherwise we will follow a similar campaign - like we did in Hisar - in all five states going to the polls," he added
Team members Prashant Bhushan, Shanti Bhushan, Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Kiran Bedi were present at the meeting, while activist Medha Patkar and Santosh Hegde did not attend the meeting.
Earlier on Friday, Kumar Vishwas, one of the core committee members had highlighted the need to overhaul the core team fighting for the enactment of a tougher Lokpal Bill so as to prevent it from losing the masses' faith and support.
In a letter to Hazare, Vishwas proposed the Gandhian activist to 'dissolve' the committee. The letter forced an impromptu meeting of the core-team members.
Earlier, Hazare aide Rajinder Singh, who quit the anti-graft movement citing political compromise as the reason, said: "I joined team Anna with the hope that they would strongly work towards eradicating corruption from the country."
"I though they would work for the benefit of the common man and also help the youth realize the problems surrounding India and motivate them to look for solutions. However in the last six-seven days I have noticed that the motive of this movement has changed and it has embroiled itself in dirty politics," he had added.
Since the past few weeks, the simmering face-off between Congress and Team Anna has turned into a political potboiler, with both sides routinely criticising one other on a range of issues.
In August, Hazare spearheaded a nationwide movement against corruption, holding a peaceful hunger strike to demand the establishment of an anti-graft agency with powers to investigate the Prime Minister, judges and civil servants.
Tapping into a groundswell of public anger against endemic corruption, Hazare succeeded in uniting the country's bulging middle-class against a hapless political class through a hunger strike, underlining voter anger at the Congress party. (ANI)
