Chugai/Gaya, Oct 29 (ANI): Gaya Police have claimed that Maoists torched a police vehicle and blocked the highway at Chugai during a protest against the killing of two villagers by six unknown gunmen the previous day.
The six unknown gunmen had fired at the village head's son Saket Yadav and his neighbour Umesh Yadav at Chaugai Bazaar.
Gaya District's Senior Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar said it seems that Maoists aided by certain other local residents had murdered the villagers.
"It is clear that the incident has been executed by some Maoist elements but the role of some non-Maoist elements have also come to light," said Kumar.
"We have found many clues and have conducted raids throughout night. Our officers were deployed in the area but it is almost clear that the suspected people involved in the incident would be arrested soon," he added.
Umesh Yadav died on the spot, while Saket Yadav died on his way to hospital.
Villagers shouted slogans against both the police and state administration over their failure to apprehend the culprits.
The district police clarified that the main suspect named Ranjan Yadav has been arrested and investigations are on.
At Chaugai, angry villagers blocked the roads for long hours.
Police tried to persuade the villagers to lift the blockade, assuring them that investigations will continue.
Heavy security force has been deployed at the spot and patrolling has been intensified. (ANI)
