Tamar (Jharkhand), Oct 27(ANI): Indian captain M.S. Dhoni today visited the revered ancient Deori temple at Tamar near Ranchi, Jharkhand.
The visit was significance since he had led the country's squad to a clean sweep win over England in the just concluded five-match ODI series.
Situated around 60 kilometres from Ranchi, the temple is located on National Highway 33 and during festive occasions like Dussera and Deepavali, it is a sea of humanity with devotees from far and near visiting to offer prayers.
No wonder, many of the devotees and locals at the temple were pleasantly surprised by the youth icon's visit.
They shared their moments of delight of having met and seen Dhoni at close quarters.
"Enroute elsewhere, we stopped here to pray and getting to see him so closely is something very memorable," said Mausami Mukherjee, a devotee who chanced to meet the Indian skipper.
Dhoni reached the temple premises amid tight security arrangements with his cavalcade being followed by scores of local fans.
He was greeted by cheering supporters who flocked after him as he headed towards the temple to offer prayers and perform traditional rituals.
Fans and devotees had a close glimpse of the cricketer during his short stay at the temple.
An elated Dhoni fan expressed her excitement after seeing the cricket star within handshaking distance.
"I met him for the first time. We were here by chance as my nephew is going to Sri Lanka to play cricket. We are indeed very fortunate to see him from such a close distance. I am very happy," said Roselin Paul, another visitor at the temple.
Earlier, Dhoni had returned to home at Ranchi on Wednesday to celebrate Deepavali, Hindu festival of lights.
The skipper is among the regular devotees at the temple and has been visiting since early years of his career. (ANI)
