Nevada (US), Oct 27 (ANI): Travel retailer World Duty Free (WDF) Group reportedly celebrated Hindu festival of Diwali at key United Kingdom airports complete with Bhangra dancers and singers and dholis (dhol drum players).

Dressed in traditional folk clothing, these performers energized Heathrow and Birmingham international airports throughout the afternoon and evening, while the WDF's video screens featured Diwali messages and related content. Many passengers at these airports joined the dancers in the merriment and took to the floor, reports suggest.

The purpose, according to reports, was "to bring the energy, excitement and colour" of Diwali season. It was kind of "instore theater" where the customers were treated to something "unexpected, inspiring and entertaining", reports said.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, commended WDF and its parent company Autogrill for patronizing Diwali and spreading its joy. He urged other major companies of the world to put Diwali celebrations on their annual calendar of sponsored events.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, suggested exploration of rich philosophy which Hinduism offered.

Founded in 1997, WDF aims to "offer the ultimate airport shopping experience" and claims to be "UK's leading travel retailer" featuring over 17,000 products in its 87 stores at 23 terminals in Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Southampton, etc. It is member of Milan (Italy) headquartered Autogrill Group.

Diwali, the festival of lights, is the most popular Hindu festival and aims at dispelling the darkness and lighting up the lives and symbolizes the victory of good over evil. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. (ANI)
