Cuttack, Oct 25 (ANI): Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani has lashed out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for ridiculing him on the black money issue.
Addressing a rally here, Advani said: "The Prime Minister too, while giving a reply to what I said asserted that Advani must be aware that we do not get money from there and maybe the elections were to happen in 2009, so he has spoken about this black money as an election stunt. I took this statement as a challenge."
"Three years ago, when I had first raised the issue of black money, some of my competitors had ridiculed me. They said that black money should be recovered and brought back to the country, but when you had a government and why didn't you get it then? You had six to seven years, Vajpayee was the Prime Minister, so why didn't you get the money from Switzerland? " he added.
He also suggested that the government should use Switzerland's newly promulgated Restitution of Illegal Assets Act to bring back the black money to India.
As per reports, an estimated amount of 500 billion dollars to 1.4 trillion dollars of unaccounted money has been deposited secretly in overseas banks by wealthy Indians and corporate bodies.
Earlier in February 2011, legal notices had been served to 17 persons in connection with foreign bank holdings, but international agreements and legal hurdles had barred the government from revealing their identities. (ANI)
