Agartala, Oct 25 (ANI): US Consul General in Kolkata Dean R Thompson has stressed on the need to have better relations with neighbouring countries to foster economic prosperity.
Addressing mediapersons here, Thompson said: "We are moving in a very positive direction, but, we also do want to encourage improved relations between India and all of its neighbours and particularly, this area being so close to Bangladesh, we hope to see continued improvements in the Indo-Bangladeshi relationship."
Thompson, who is on a maiden visit to Tripura, however, felt that the northeastern region being very close to Bangladesh should boost relations between the two countries.
He further said there should be an improved multi-dimensional relations between India and its neighbours.
"There's a lot happening in the state and I can see a lot of positive development here. So, it's quite exciting. I think there is a tremendous amount of development going on and with that development we hope there will come a lot more peace, a lot more stability, the issues that they are involved in the politics of these areas or issues of the government of India, the government of these states to work out and to resolve with them," he added.
Thompson, earlier met Chief Secretary of Tripura Dr. S K Pandey and had discussions with Governor Dr. D Y Patil. (ANI)
