India's tennis sensation Sania Mirza lost his place from the top 30 bracket after she went down three rungs, to be placed at 32nd position, in the latest WTA Rankings issued on Monday.
Sania upheld her doubles ranking at 23 while her compatriot and second best US-based Sunitha Rao had also kept her singles ranking at 182 though she lost one place in doubles to be at 126th.
Sania will open her campaign at the Qatar Open on Tuesday. The Indian is in the main draw of the 64-player field at the $2.5m event to be held at the Khalifa Tennis Complex from February 18 to 24.
The 21-year-old was put under heavy criticism during last month’s Australian Open after she was found in a picture showing her feet placed next to India’s national flag as she watched compatriot Rohan Bopanna play in the Hopman Cup.
Mirza has been beleaguered by so many controversies and issues back home that she had decided to not to play in events to be held in India.
India duo of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have kept their top-20 places to be at 15 and 19 respectively in the latest ATP list.
