New Delhi, Oct 22 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that the rule by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) led-Left Front was the cause for the backwardness of the state.
"There have been changes in other states. Different types of government came and they delivered the goods. And Bengal, first it was the forward state, now it became the backward state. I am sorry to say that my state became the backward state because of this 35 years of misrule by the leftist government," Banerjee told the media here.
Taking a pot shot at her communist rivals, she said her government had introduced a slew of measures to combat the fast growing Maoist influence in Jangalmahal area of Medinipur district.
"That's why I visited twice in Jangalmahal also. And we have declared some new package also. All the Jangalmahal all the tribal people have been declared as BPL families. So they are getting rupees two rice (per kilogram) and they are getting the other facilities also. And also in Jangalmahal area, I started, means my government started, already 10,000 jobs for the unemployed youth who are the local people," added Banerjee.
Earlier, Banerjee met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought the Centre's help in improving the state's poor financial health. She also met Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh.
She also expressed concern to the Prime MInister about the price rise situation and asked for some immediate steps to curb it as it was affecting lives of common people. (ANI)
