New Delhi, Oct 13 (ANI): The ongoing tussle between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party over social activist Anna Hazare's alleged links with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has turned into a political potboiler.
The issue gathered steam after senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh revealed the contents of a letter allegedly sent by senior RSS leader Suresh Bhaiyya Joshi to Hazare in April, when the activist was holding a hunger strike demanding the enactment of tough anti-graft laws.
Espousing Hazare's cause through the said document, the RSS had extended solidarity with his anti-graft campaign.
Digvijay Singh had previously claimed that the RSS, propped up Yoga Guru Ramdev and Hazare to divert people's attention from its militant activities.
Supporting his party colleague's stand, Congress General Secretary, Janardan Dwivedi, said that the ties between the RSS and Hazare were public knowledge.
"The whole country knows this. Everyone, from the top brass of the RSS to the lower rung cadres have repeatedly said that they are united with them ( Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev). The BJP has also said that this relationship between the RSS and the anti-graft activists is public knowledge," said Dwivedi.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Congress' charges, senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh said the movements spearheaded by both Hazare and Ramdev were products of the growing public resentment against the government on the issues of corruption and black money.
"Be it Anna Hazare's campaign against graft or the movement spearheaded by Baba Ramdev, neither of them is being carried out by the support of any political party. These movements, initiated by two well-known individuals of the country, are indeed results of the growing public anger against corruption and black money," Singh told reporters in Mathura. (ANI)
