Kupwara, Oct 12 (ANI): General Officer Commanding of Indian Army's XV Corps, Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain has said that a stern vigil is being maintained along the Line of Control (LoC), which has deterred infiltration bids by militants from across the border into the Kashmir Valley.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here, General Hasnain said: "Certain regions like Machhil sector offered the shortest routes for militants to infiltrate from across the border as such the locals had been enlightened on their key role to assist the Army in checking the possibility of infiltration."
"Naturally, because these are short routes, there are more attempts. Secondly, I always say in my analysis that there are attempts by the militants to send as many of their top commanders into Kashmir, as is possible, so that the destruction wrought before may be effected again and areas be wrested out of the Army's control. When they act with such desperation, they make mistakes as well," he added.
He further said that militants were desperate to break in because 19 top militant commanders had been eliminated killed by the Army in the past year.
"I give total credit to the entire army hierarchy and structure, and the way they have supported us, and I think we are more ready than ever before, on the LoC fence, as far as our counter insurgency grid is," he added.
Emphasising that the Army had the ability to neutralise militancy in the state, he said that his forces were well prepared to tackle the oncoming challenges of the winter season. (ANI)
