Nevada (US), Oct 10 (ANI): Nepalese in Nevada (USA) celebrated Dashain festival in University of Nevada-Reno (UNR) with prayer, dances and sharing traditional food.
Men, women and children of Nepalese descent filled-up the Jot Travis Auditorium where authentic Nepalese cuisine, prepared by Nepalese families of the area, was served. Many non-Nepalese also joined the celebrations, which started with Durgapuja and ended with folk dances from various regions of Nepal.
Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed blessed the participants with tika and jamara (maize sprouts). He recited Gayatri mantra, the most sacred mantra in Hinduism, and the participants chanted after him.
Celebrations were organized by Nepalese Students Association (NSA) of UNR, which was launched in 2006 to "promote the cultural and social integration and interaction" between Nepalese students and others and organizes various cultural and social events.
May Durgamata shower good luck on all of us and fulfill our wishes on this auspicious occasion of Dashain, Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, said in his address. NSA President Yadab Paudel welcomed Zed and others to the event.
Most of the Nepalese students in Nevada are doing masters, doctorate and post doctorate studies in sciences and engineering. Besides Paudel, other NSA office-bearers include: Vice President Rajan Devkota, Secretary Daambar Air and Treasurer Puspa Chhetri. (ANI)
