Jalandhar (Punjab), Oct.6 (ANI): Border Security Force (BSF) personnel ha reported the successful seizure of 27 kilograms of heroin and foreign currency worth Rs.1, 98, 500.
Arms and ammunition, including one pistol, three magazines and 20 rounds of bullets were also seized on the intervening night of October 5 and 6, a BSF press release said.
The press release further said that BSF Additional Director-General Himmat Singh has issued operational guidelines to strengthen border defence to prevent narcotic and arms smuggling.
The seizure took place at the Border Outpost Rajatal in the Amritsar Sector. It was also confirmed that Pakistani miscreants fired at BSF personnel when accosted at the checkpost. The miscreants, however, managed to escape.
The value of the seized heroin is estimated to be worth about Rs.135 crore in the international market.
In 2011, the BSF has seized over 60 kilograms of heroin worth over Rs.22 lakhs, eight pistols, one Pakistan make MP5 gun, 15 pistol magazines, two MP5 gun magazines, 99 rounds of pistol ammunition and 50 rounds of MP5 gun ammunition. (ANI)
