Bhopal, Oct 1 (IANS) From Thursday, Christians in Madhya Pradesh will take to "Gandhigiri" - donating blood and planting saplings - to protest the violence targeting the community.
The Madhya Pradesh Isai Mahasangh (MPIM) that is spearheading the protests along with many socio-political organisations Wednesday said the campaign is being launched to protest the violence against the community.
"We do not believe in violence in any form, including terrorism. We will take the Gandhigiri method of protests. Like (forming) human chains, donating blood through blood donation camps, tree plantation, cleaning up public places,' Father Anand Muttungal of the MPIM told reporters.
'It is an effort to draw the public attention towards the violence (against Christians),' Muttungal said.
'To start with, we will organise a human Chain at Gandhi Bhavan and a blood donation camp on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti (Thursday),' he added.
Muttungal, who is also the spokesperson for Catholic Bishops Council here, said the campaign would be continued in other cities and towns of Madhya Pradesh 'to awaken the conscience of the people'.
"It will definitely awaken collective conscience against the uncontrolled violence against Christians in the country and the state in particular,' he said.
'We demand immediate arrest of the persons involved in the burning of a Church in Jabalpur,' he said, adding the Indore Church burning case should be probed by the CBI because 'a person in the state government's Minority Welfare Committee is trying to divert the direction of the investigation'.
"We also demand a CBI investigation into the Ratlam Church burning.'
