Political loss to Congress party if separate Telangana state is not formed: Keshav Rao

New Delhi, Sun, 02 Oct 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 2(ANI): The Congress Party is unlikely to win any seat from Andhra Pradesh's Telangana region if separate state is not formed, according to its senior leader K. Keshav Rao.

Rao, who hails from the region and supports the formation of Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh, however, reiterated that he would remain with the Congress party.

"If Telangana is not created, we will get zero (seat). It is a matter of happiness when you (reporter) said 'everybody should walk together' (work together), but nothing happened. We have 32 lawmakers, but there is only one minister from Telangana," Rao told ANI in New Delhi on Sunday.

"There are three to four ministers from the region where we have lost (seats). It is our fate or misfortune, but we are with the Congress (Party)," he added.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Janardan Dwivedi urged the media to focus on their health and health of other political parties instead of the Congress Party.

"Now time has come, media should think about its own health. All the conclusions which were published for weeks have turned to false. You (reporters) should also look at health of other parties, you will enjoy it," Dwivedi said.

For the past several days, pro-Telangana activists have stepped up their agitation for the four-decade-old demand of a separate state, crippling normal life in Andhra Pradesh.

Members of Parliament and state legislative assembly from Telangana region, cutting across party lines, have also quit en masse to mount pressure on the Central government.

The four-decade-old demand, which seeks to carve out of the economically less developed parts of Andhra Pradesh, gathered momentum last year after the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in New Delhi accepted the demand in principle. (ANI)
