New Delhi, Sep.21 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, is visiting New York to attend the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) after a gap of three years.
The visit is taking place in the backdrop of geo-political changes in world politics, triggered by the Jasmine Revolution in the Middle East.
Dr.Singh has been a regular attendant at world summit meets like the G-20, ASEAN, CHOGM, ASEM, ARF, BRICS and IBSA.
Thus, a majority of the leaders attending this year's UNGA session, would be no strangers to the Indian Prime Minister who has been in office for the last seven years.
During his visit, however, Dr.Singh would be meeting several new leaders, including Nepal's newly elected Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and the President of the newly created country of South Sudan, Salva Kiir.
Dr. Singh will also hold talks with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse and Iran President Mahmoud Ahamdinejad on the sidelines of the UNGA session.
He may also meet with interim Libyan leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil and have one-to-one meetings with representative leaders of China, the United States and Pakistan. By Naveen Kapoor (ANI)
